We envision a Hong Kong where everyone has access to the resources they need to achieve their full potential. To do so, we support charities that improve the lives of the vulnerable or at-risk.
MISSION & HISTORY
OUR LEGACY OF GIVING
For 70 years, the AWA and now the AWA Foundation has worked to uplift local at-risk communities by raising millions of Hong Kong dollars and awarding charitable grants to support deserving, hard working local charities. Because community matters to us.
STARTING A START-UP
In 2019, the AWA embarked on a new chapter of philanthropy with the creation of a new sister start up organization, the AWA Foundation (AWAF). With the help of many in our community with things like legal support, start up seed money and so much more, the AWAF successfully received its Section 88 charitable tax-exempt status in Hong Kong, officially becoming a recognized charity.
KEEPING HONG KONG STRONG
The AWA Foundation remains committed to offering flexible support to charitable organizations and non-profits in Hong Kong, recognizing that life can be unpredictable. We believe it is essential that funds raised are reinvested locally to enhance support networks and help charities pivot when our community needs it most.
HELPING OTHERS GIVE BACK TOO
The AWAF collaborates with the American Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong's Charitable Foundation and is open to partnerships with other businesses and organizations. Our volunteers are ready to assist with vetting charities and facilitating grant-making recommendations. It’s a win-win! The more we collaborate, the greater the impact!
WE ARE A CHARITY INCUBATOR
We take calculated risks on budding NGOs. A grant from the AWA Foundation serves as a seal of approval that helps young organizations attract additional funding.
WE SUPPORT INNOVATIVE IDEAS
We support unconventional projects that push boundaries to enhance service delivery. Like a sailboat for the disabled to experience the joys of a unique form of mobility or a robotic hand to help elderly people gain independence.
WE FUND ESSENTIAL (OFTEN OVERLOOKED) ITEMS
By supplying charities with basic items like mosquito netting, fans and air conditioners we alleviate financial strain on a charity's other services. We like to keep people healthy and to prevent the overburdening of the public healthcare system.
